Clinical Pathways are standardised, evidence-based multidisciplinary management plans, which identify an appropriate sequence of clinical interventions, timeframes, milestones and expected outcomes for an homogenous patient group.

I PDTA o Clinical Pathways servono ad organizzare ed a mettere in sequenza d’azione, in un dato periodo di tempo, tutti i professionisti sanitari (analisi tempo-compito), regolando la successione degli interventi (diagnostici, terapeutici, nutrizionali, educativi, di sicurezza, di pianificazione alla dimissione, di screening di pre-ospedalizzazione, di consulenza ecc).

Un altro servizio reso dai paths è il semplificare e migliorare la raccolta dati e quindi la loro successiva elaborazione.
